The Satipeetha at Juranpur
According to the Mahapithanirupana text, Kalighata or Kalipeetha is the 45th among the 51 Satipeethas. A few other texts Shivacharita, Prantoshini Tantra etc. also mentioned of this peetha and specified the location to be at Juranpur, in the district of Nadia in West Bengal.
The goddess here is Joydurga, her Bhairava is Krodhesha or Krodhisha and the Skull or Munda of Sati is supposed to have fallen in this peetha. Juranpur Satipeetha has been visited by several famous sages and tanriks like sadhak Ram Krishna Roy, Ramakrishna Paramahangsa, Kulananda Bramchari, Pujananda Giri of Mymensingh, Sarbananda Giri of Tripura, sadhak Bamakhyapa and his disciple Tarakhyapa and others. There is no idol, but a swayambhu stone that is worshipped. Beside this, a Devi idol of astadhatu (8-metals) is also worshipped here. According to legend, a local habitant named Manindra Chakraborty found this idol from a pond near the peetha.
Special pujas are organized in Juranpur during Rathayatra, Janmasthami, Durgapuja, Rotonti-Kalipuja etc.. Jalabhishek’ ritual of Shiva is performed on the last Monday of every Shravana. A big fair is organized every year on Maghi Purnima when more than lakhs of pilgrims assemble here to offer puja irrespective of caste and creed.
